| On Saturday evening around 6:30 pm., strong storms with frequent lightning and high winds moved through the Eldorado area.
At approximately 6:45 pm Eldorado-Brookview, along with Hurlock, Sharptown, and Federalsburg, was dispatched to a structure fire believed to have been caused by a lightning strike near the intersection of Wesley Road and Eldorado-Federalsburg Road.
Chief 6-2 arrived and confirmed a working fire and established command.Engine Tanker 26 arrived shortly afterward and crews stretched a hose line to the front door. Crews were met with heavy smoke conditions as they entered the house and made their way upstairs.The fire was located in the attic space and the crew was able to get a good knock on the fire. A working fire task force was dispatched and that alerted Vienna, East New Market and Preston. Vienna and East New Market were canceled prior to arriving. Preston proceeded in to assist with operations and fill SCBA bottles.
Family members reported that one dog and three cats were inside the home. Hurlock crews arrived and advanced a second hose line to assist the crews working on the second floor.Hurlock’s crew was able to locate and safely remove the dog from the residence. Later in the incident, the three cats were located downstairs and also removed from the home.
Crews from Federalsburg set up the tower and provided ventilation by opening the roof. Sharptown crews assisted with interior operations and conducted the primary search.
Units began clearing the scene around 10:00 pm. The scene was turned over to the Fire Marshal’s Office for further investigation to determine the exact cause. Red Cross was also notified for the family. All of the families pets did make it out safely.
